More Random Thoughts

Some random sports related thoughts as I watch Villanova & Louisville:

  1. He’s not doing this game, but I’m nominating Rick Majerus for MIA—that’s Most Improved Announcer.  He was flat out painful to listen to last year.  He’s MUCH better this year.  OK, he’s not Jay Bilas or Bill Raftery yet, but at least he’s no longer the college hoops equivalent of (a literate) Eric Dickerson.

  2. While I’m impressed with Villanova, I don’t think they can win the whole thing.  They don’t have that killer instinct to put teams away when they get up by 15 with 12 minutes to go.

  3. Only 62 days until Opening Day, and 45 days until the NCAA tourney starts (I don’t count the play-in game).

  4. Nobody in Charlotte’s talking about it (probably because they play in Raleigh), but the Carolina Hurricanes (formerly my beloved Hartford Whalers) have the best record in the NHL.  They’ve also just added Doug Weight.  This may be the year.

  5. What would it take to abolish the X-Games?  They want to be taken seriously, but they have the same problem figure skating and gymnastics has:  Judges.  It’s not a sport if judges decide the winners, it’s a performance as likely to be fixed as the WWE (or NBA).

  6. I’ve noticed that ESPN has bumped Stevie A(hole) Smith to 11:00 pm from his previous 6:30 pm time slot.  I’m guessing (and hoping) that show’s done in about 4 months.

  7. There’s only one thing disappointing about the cancellation of ESPN Hollywood, and that’s the disappearance of Thea Andrews.

That’s it for now.  Click the ads above, and post a comment if you feel up to it.
